Setting Up Appointments:
House of Representatives (morning AM): Please schedule your own House appointments. Constituents receive a much quicker response to appointment requests than DC-based advocates. Call your Representatives office (click here to look up) and ask to make an appointment to see the housing staffer the morning of March 13th. Please try to schedule your House appointments for the morning (10:30 - 1:30)
Note! After you have made your House appointments, please click here to send NNA an email with your confirmed House appointments - that way NNA can coordinate your Senate visits and not conflict.
Senate (afternoon PM): NNA will help schedule these appointments for the afternoon of March 13th (1pm to 3:30pm). This year we request that you meet with your Senators in the afternoon since the reception will be held in the Senate building (Dirksen 106).
Advocacy Priorities and Talking Points:
As in previous years, the NNA External Policy Committee and the NNA Board of Directors have agreed that our first priority for the should be the NeighborWorks America "core" appropriation. The second priority will be left to you to address local needs, whether that is CDBG, HOME, Rural Funding, NHTF, etc.
Priority 1: NeighborWorks America FY19 "Core Appropriation
- FY 2019 Funding Request: $150 million, $10 million adjustment over the Senate FY18 $140 million. Due to funding environment, the "extra" $10 million will leverage almost $600 million of projects/programs/services with NeighborWorks network total leverage of 59 - 1.
Priority 2: Next Most Important Funding Source that impacts you the most.
NNA will have Legislative Day packets available for pick-up at the Doubletree Hotel on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning at the briefing breakfast. Included in the packets will be all relevant and necessary information for your visits. Items will include NWA Fact Sheets, Talking Points Summary, Map of Capitol Hill and other materials. Please make sure to bring local information about your organization to include in the packet (tailored to NNA priorities/talking points - see above). One side of the folder will be fore "national" information, the other side for "local" information.
Make sure you pick up your Legislative Day Pin and the NNA Member Luggage tag while registering.
National Fact Sheets to be included:
Telling the Local Story
The Corporate Strategy and Impact division of NeighborWorks® America has many tools, all FREE, that can help you create the visual story you need to tell your local story. This is available to all network members for many different uses; grant applications, annual reports, mapping service delivery, etc. NNA would suggest that using these visuals could enhance your local story in a national conversation. Visit the NWA Business Intelligence Services webpage on the member site here to see how to make the magic happen.
NNA Legislative Day and Public Transportation
Free hotel shuttle from Reagan National Airport (DCA) to the hotel. For additional information on hotel transportation, open this document. NNA will be purchasing one-day unlimited Metro passes for NNA Legislative Day. These passes are good for the entire day for any WMATA public transportation. These are purchased by NNA for your use. The Metro is safe, reliable and eco-friendly. Here is a map and directions for use of the Metro the day of our event. We hope you use this great public resource on your visits. If you do not use, or do not intend to use, the Metro, please give your passes to Lou or Star.
